FAQs

What's the deal with I AM DRUMS's release date? Some places say it came out in September 2015 while others say September 2016. Which is correct?

September 6, 2016 is the release date. The edition of I AM DRUMS that was supposed to come out in September 2015 was never published.

I AM DRUMS was initially supposed to publish in September 2015 through Egmont USA. When they closed down, I AM DRUMS went back on submission and was picked up by Clarion Books, an imprint of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

What's the deal with the I AM DRUMS soundtrack? Where can I listen to it?

"Songs for Sam(antha): the I AM DRUMS Soundtrack is 11 original songs I wrote and recorded in my home studio. They are in chronological order and match up with particular moments from the book.

The entire album is streamable and purchasable here.

Please note, however, that it is free to anyone who purchases the book.

Where do you teach? What grade?

I teach fourth grade close to where I live, but not right in my hometown.

Will you come visit our school/library/hobbit hole?

Yes! Look here to learn how to ask.

Where can I learn more about drums?

I am planning to add resources to this website in the near future that connect the real pursuit of drumming as a professional option to details in the book itself. Until then, my best suggestion is to look for a community music program or join something through your school. There are always private teachers, but that can be expensive and not all families have the resources to go that route.

Any advice for young writers?

Read a lot. Write a lot. Pay attention to other people, even the ones you don't like. Try new things. Figure out what you have to say that nobody else has said. Restate what other people have said in your own unique way. Give yourself opportunities to fail. Remember that failing is just a step on the road to success. Eat cookies. Lots of cookies.

Are you the guy who writes nonfiction books about the afterlife?

Definitely NOT. That Michael Grosso has a PhD.
